- Be ready to learn.
- Turn work in on time.
- Treat yourself and others with respect.
- Minimize calling out in class by raising hand.
In Geography we try to stay on schedule, but some topics take longer than others and sometimes we can even move faster
than our plan! Therefore, even though a particular lesson is slated for a particular date, the class of that day may not be about the topic listed for that date. Please check your student's agenda for the "real" topic of the day.
Geography classes have access to one set of textbooks and one set of atlases so you may not see these books coming home. (Students may check out a textbook or atlas to take home should they need to. The atlases are the new blue cover Nystrom. Older siblings may have purchased a red cover a few years ago and these are still useful for home.)
Work is done in class and during the Resource period. If student's use this time wisely, they shouldn't have more than 20 to 30 minutes of Geography tasks to finish on a given evening. If your student has used time at home to complete an assignment and is lost as to what needs to be done or it seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time to complete, please sign the agenda and your student and I can re-hash what they needed to do to complete the assignment without frustration. I have noticed that some of the students really go overboard to complete minimal assignments and while it's really nice to see their vigor, I hope that they understand the given directions. If, however, I assign a project over four days and the student chooses to wait until the last day to do the work, they should expect to use at least 80 minutes of their evening that night on Geography.
Assignments are listed by the week in my classroom and I expect the students to copy the assignments into their agendas.
If students are ill, I expect them to make up the missed work which could include worksheets, tests, readings, notes, computer or A-V time or projects. If you are going on a trip, I will have an assignment for the student to complete while away.
I have a notebook in the classroom with notes from activities that students may copy when they've been absent.
Extra Credit Geography : As we study physical and human geography , extra credit will be available on selected topics.
It's hurricane season in the Caribbean. How are hurricanes formed? What is a beneficial part to
a hurricane? How (and when) are they named? Describe a timeline of a hurricane - as it forms
to as it dies.
Please call or e-mail me with any concern. I try to respond on the same day.
